Embodiment is by definition the act of embodying or the state of being embodied. As the wise Bonnie Bain Bridge Cohen says ‘Embodiment is about what is, not about what should be or could be’.
During this semester together, we will explore our Bodies in motion and stillness to gain a deeper awareness into our internal landscapes of Being.
The workshop will consist of 2 days workshop at Danscentrum Väst and 1 virtual workshop via Zoom.
During the in-person workshop sessions, we will approach movement through the practice of So.M.A - Somatic Movement Attunement ™. So.M.A is an ongoing dialogue and research of our bodies in motion to access Whole-Body Awareness. It is a practice of acknowledging physiological & non-physiological functions through integrative tools and tasks in movement.
Also, in the in-person sessions, we will dive into the powerful practice of Breathwork, specifically the Two-stage Mouth breathing technique. This specific approach activates the sympathetic nervous system, or flight/fight stress response, to move and unblock stagnation of energy stored in the fascia, also known as connective tissue. This technique of breathing can support you working through unresolved bodily trauma. Breathwork practice helps develop resiliency within our nervous system, allowing a deeper sense of ‘ease’ in our bodies.
You will be guided and supported through these two mediums with self-reflection and journaling prompts.
During the virtual workshop sessions, we will explore complementing Somatic tools & Movement exercises to support and expand awareness of the fascial system, nervous system and organs in the process to deepen & transform the Whole being.
